Obituary of Stephen Joseph Karavitch

Stephen Joseph Karavitch, 78, a lifelong resident of the Hilldale section of Plains Township, was greeted by his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 1, 2018, while in the care of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Township. 

 

Born on November 15, 1939, in Hilldale, he was a son of the late William and Julia Yankowski Karavitch. 

Stephen attended local schools and was a graduate of the Sacred Heart High School class of 1957.

 

After graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and later the United States Air Force Reserves.

 

For thirty-three years, until his retirement, Stephen was employed as a stock clerk and a delivery driver for M. Lidz Inc. which served the regions garment manufacturing industry. 

     

Stephen was a devoted husband of 55 years to his loving wife Laverne Glycenfer Karavitch, a loving father to his son Stephen, and an active member of St. Joseph’s Church, Hudson. After the church’s closure, he and Laverne became a member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Plains. 

 

Stephen is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Anastasia Stucko, and brother Vincent Karavitch. 

 

Surviving is his loving wife, Laverne, son Stephen and his wife Linda, Nazareth, and his grandchildren Stephen, Kristen, and Kylie. 

 

Funeral services for Stephen were held privately. His funeral service was placed in the care of the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains.
