Obituary of Robert Angelo Georgetti

Robert Angelo Georgetti, 86, of the Miner-Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, was welcomed home by his Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Commonwealth Hospice Unit, Wilkes-Barre, following an illness. Born in Plains, on February 9, 1927, he was a son of the late Angelo and Josephine Taroli Georgetti. Robert grew up in the Plains area and attended local schools. He was a graduate of the Plains Memorial High School, class of 1944. After graduation, Robert joined the Army and served during World War II. After leaving the Army in 1947, he returned home to marry his loving wife, the former Helen Backiel, on February 14, 1948. They celebrated 65 years of loving marriage. During these years, Robert worked in the local garment industry as a sewing machine technician for Leslie Fay, Wilkes-Barre, and then for Bocar Manufacturing, Tunkhannock , until his retirement. Robert loved bowling. He had bowled for 25 years in different leagues throughout the valley. Some of his other hobbies included hunting, dancing, walking the mall for exercise, and being a handy carpenter. Some of his life treasures were making small wood projects for his family in the form of kitchen utensils; wooden nutcrackers, and toys. Robert was a sports fan, especially to his Pittsburgh Steelers and NY Yankees. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis church, Miner-Mills, until its closure and a recent member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains; the Joseph E. Conlon Post 558, American Legion, and a past member of the Hudson Servicemen's Club. Robert is preceded in death by his sons Robert A. Jr., 1967; Laurence, 1999;brothers Nello; Alfredo; and sister Rose Bordick. Robert is survived by his loving wife Helen, at home; sister Clara Cinti; brother Rudolph and his wife Jennie, Plains; sons Gary, at home; Luke and his wife Christine, Mechanicsburg; daughter Pamela Murphy and her husband Nicholas, Minnetonka, MN; daughter-in-law Lori G. Tillger; five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Robert's funeral will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013, 9:00 a.m. at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Plains with military honors provided by the Plains American Legion, Post 558. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Special Olympics Luzerne County, 100 Lake Street, Dallas, PA 18612, (570) 674-4001 .
