Madelon Balas, 88, of Plains Township, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012, in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit of Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Hudson on August 14, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Vitchercofski Goobic. Madelon was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1942 and had worked for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a member of the former St. Francis Church, Miners-Mills, and currently a member of St. Benedict Church, Parsons. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-six years, Daniel N. Balas, July 21, 1986 and by a sister Agnes Constable. She is survived by daughters Magdalen Lore, Bethlehem; Annette Balas, with whom she resided; son Daniel J. Balas, Swoyersville; granddaughters Allyson Siderio, Carie Ann Keefrider and great-granddaughters Kaylee and Morgan Siderio. Madelon's request was to have a private family funeral. She will have a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Benedict Church, Parsons, with interment to follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Plains Township. Memorial donations may be given to Hospice Community Care, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704. Arrangements are entrusted to Yanaitis Funeral Home, Plains.
