Marie Victoria Katsock Obituary

Marie Victoria Katsock, 78, of Miners-Mills passed peacefully on Thursday, January 30, 2025, while in the care of the General Hospital Wilkes-Barre, after a sudden illness.


Born in West Pittston, on January 22, 1947, she was one of three daughters of the late Joseph and Victoria Waskiewicz Serino. She attended schools in the West Pittston area and was a graduate of the high school class of 1964.


Marie began working for Pagnotti Enterprises. She did volunteer her time to work as a librarian in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for several years. This led to her being appointed to a librarian at the Maffett Street Elementary School, Plains. She held this position for several years and later left to work for the Citizens’ Voice Newspaper and General Elevator Company of Wilkes-Barre.


Later in life, she continued her education and completed her B.S. in Business Administration at King’s College in 2013. This helped her working for the Luzerne County Intermediate Unit where she worked as the Human Resources Coordinator for ten years. During her last six years, Marie also substituted as a teacher with ESS in local schools.


Marie married the love of her life, John G. Katsock, on July 27, 1968. Together they resided in the Miners- Mills section of Wilkes-Barre for fifty-one years until John's passing on July 6, 2019. Together they raised their daughter Christine.


In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, and the company of her pet cats.


Marie was a member of the Corpus Christi Parish, St. Anthony Church; a member of the Child Development Board, and an elected Republican Committeewoman.


She was preceded in passing by her loving parents Joseph and Victoria, her husband John; and her sister Roseann Klocko.


Surviving Marie are her daughter Christine Forte and her husband Neil III, Dallas, sister Nancy Zalenski, Plains; nieces; nephews; and cousins.


A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, February 3, 2025, at the St. Anthony Church of the Corpus Christi Parish, Exeter. Mass was celebrated by Rev. Michael S. Drevitch. Interment followed in the Lithuanian Independent Cemetery, Wyoming.


Services were in the care of the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains Twp.
