Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas Anthony Hasaka, 80, of Plains Township, passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, while in the care of Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre on July 6, 1944, he was the son of the late Anthony and Helen Zarzecki Hasaka. Tom grew up in the Heights section of the city and attended local city schools and was a graduate of G.A.R. High School. Tom then joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Japan and Turkey during his term of service until he was honorably discharged and returned home. He then became a claims adjuster for Metropolitan Insurance Company, and also worked for Charmin. Tom then began working for Tobyhanna Army Depot and was handling transportation and logistics for military equipment. After twenty years in his career, Tom retired. He still worked part time for the Catholic Youth Center as a bus driver and security. Tom, once discharged from the service, saw a beautiful girl, Theresa “Terry” Yudin at a local bar, and he gave her a ride home. Every night, he would go back to that bar waiting for her to come back. After several days, she finally did. He never left her side until his passing. They were married on August 2, 1969. Together they raised four children: Mary Jo, Mark, David, and Thomas. Tom was a past member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Plains where he participated, with his wife, in running the flea market for the church. He was also a past member of St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre, until the church’s recent closure. Tom and the family took many vacations over the years, especially going to Disney World, or summer trips to the beaches in Virginia or Maryland, and local destinations. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed watching Penn State and the Eagles play football, and old westerns. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and his son in law James Bonczek Sr. Surviving are his loving wife of fifty-five years, Theresa, at home; daughter Mary Jo Bonczek, Plains; son Mark and his family, Doylestown; son David, Plains; and his fiancé Beverly Dolsay of Allentown; son Thomas and his wife Jill, Tennessee; grandchildren Steven, Rebecca, James, Luke, Connor, and Grace. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. John Lambert, Pastor. A visitation will be held at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Services are in the care of the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains Twp.
