Obituary of Germaine Loretta Talmadge

Germaine Loretta Talmadge, 91, of Wilkes-Barre, passed in the comfort of her bed on Sunday, April 6, 2025, while in the care of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton.
Germaine was born in Wilkes-Barre on March 31, 1934. She was one of seven children of the late John Sr. and Anna Ungvarsky Dering. Germaine grew up in the East End section of the city and attended local school. She was a graduate of the Plains Memorial High School.
On November 29, 1952, Germaine married her soulmate, Raymond Talmadge. Together they raised two children, Allen and Diane. This past year the couple celebrated their seventy second anniversary.
Germaine was a full-time caregiver and a loving mother to her children. She also helped to clean and maintain churches in Taylor for many years.
Germaine enjoyed many hobbies that her husband also enjoyed. They both loved traveling and being outdoors camping. She was a skilled sewing crafter, an excellent cook, and loved to paint indoor or outdoor projects.
In her free time, she was a member of the VFW Post 6325 of Hudson, the Plains Ladybugs, and a faithful member of Saint Maria Goretti’s Parish of Laflin.
Germaine was preceded in death by her parents John and Anna; husband Raymond; sisters Madeline Walutes, Sally Binker, and Emily Gurdock; brothers John Dering Jr. and Jerome Dering.
Surviving are her loving children: daughter Diane Golya-Gatrell and her husband James, Jenkins Twp.; and son Allen, Wyoming; daughter in law Susan, West Wyoming; grandson Jason Talmadge and his wife Michele, Swoyersville; sister Lucy Moules, Wilkes-Barre; along with several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Alex Roche, Pastor, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the caring nurses and aides at the Gino Merli Veteran Center for the exceptional care and compassion shown to both Ray and Germaine. You are doing God’s work here on Earth.
