Sonya Brzozowski was called to heaven on August 25, 2025. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Sonya graduated from Coughlin High School and spent many years working in banking, retail, and bartending. She most recently retired from Wilkes-Barre Area School District as a Paraprofessional where she cherished working with the children.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the proud daughter of Joseph and Marie Vankevich. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Alice and daughter, Kelly, and her husband of 31 years, Alan Brzozowski who passed unexpectedly in February of this year.
Sonya loved her two cats Grayson and Jaxson, and the two family dogs, Piper and Maia. She spent her days hanging out with them and watching her favorite show, General Hospital.
Her greatest love was her children, Lisa (Don), John Paul(Alexa), Austin(Holly) and Tyler (Mitchell), and her grandson Harrison. She is also survived by her sisters Marie and Joanne, her Aunt Alice, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her loved ones rejoice in knowing she is with those who have gone before her, especially Kelly, her beloved daughter.
Her family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their excellent care and heart-felt compassion throughout this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help support her favorite rescue, First Steps Animal Rescue and Sanctuary - https://www.facebook.com/FirstStepsAnimalRescue/.
