William (Bill) Charles Wheeler Sr., 86, of the Hudson sections of Plains Twp., passed on Friday, December 19, 2025, while in the care of hospice at his daughter's home in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. His loving wife Maryann, daughter Michelle and family were by his side as he passed into heaven.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on July 17, 1939, William was a son to the late Donald and Doris Fudge Wheeler. William grew up on Abbott Street in Plains and attended local Plains Township schools and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School where he played the drums in the marching band.
Bill at the age of 18 joined the United States Army and after his term of service transferred to the Pennsylvania National Guard. After 26 years of service, Bill was honorably discharged. During these years, Bill married his high school sweetheart the former Maryann Andrejko. Together they resided in the Hudson section of Plains for the past sixty-three years where they raised their five children: William Jr; Timothy; Michael; Richard and Michelle.
Bill was employed by Roscoe Miller Cadillac in his early years and then became a truck delivery driver for Petroleum Service Company for several years until his retirement. Throughout Bill’s life he loved going to classic car shows with the family and watching NASCAR to cheer on his favorite driver, Mark Martin.
He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy; mother, Doris (Fudge) Wheeler; Father, Donald Wheeler; and sister Rita Duncan
William is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Maryann; son, William Jr. and his wife Maryann; son, Michael and his wife Ann; son, Richard and his wife Charlene; daughter, Michelle and her husband Walt; sister, Sandra Skripkunis; sister, Charlene Thomas; grandchildren: Sarah Wheeler: Cassie Gancarcik and wife Dawn: Walter Wells: Crystal Smith and husband Matt: Bailey Frazier and husband Shawn: Zoe Wheeler: Alyson McCabe, and Brendan McCabe and numerous great- grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held this Friday, December 26, from 5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street Plains. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday beginning at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in the Saints Peter and Paul Church, Plains, with Rev. John Lambert, Pastor, as the officiant. Interment will follow in St Joseph Cemetery, Hudson, with military honors provided by the United States Army and Plains American Legion Post 558.
