James Slabinski Jr. Obituary
James Slabinski Jr., 42, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 3, 2026. Affectionately known as Jimmy, he was surrounded by the love of family and friends throughout his life.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on June 11, 1983, Jimmy grew up in the Miners-Mills section of the city. His neighbors and friends played a significant role in his upbringing, teaching him to ride his bike and to throw a football or baseball. These moments became some of his most cherished memories.
Jimmy attended Dan Flood Elementary School and graduated from James M. Coughlin High School. For the past fifteen years, he worked at Schiel's Family Market on George Avenue. He truly enjoyed his job, and his coworkers treated him like family. His mother, Susan, is deeply appreciative of their kindness, compassion, and commitment to ensuring Jimmy had wonderful days at work.
A dedicated Philadelphia Eagles fan, Jimmy loved watching games on television and attending games at the stadium to cheer for his team. Some of his happiest moments were spent sharing these experiences with family and friends. As we remember Jimmy, we hope he has a perfect view from heaven and saves us a seat at the big game in the sky. He will be loved and missed always. Sleep peacefully, Jimmy.
Jimmy is survived by his loving mother Susan; uncles Peter Klokus and his wife Heidi of Plains, Joseph Klokus of Trucksville, and Larry Angeles and his wife Diane of Old Forge; aunts Beverly Mattei and her husband John of Plains, and Georgia Lapsansky and her husband Michael of Inkerman; numerous cousins; and many friends.
Services for James will be held privately at the convenience of his family. Arrangements have been made with care by the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains Township.
