Obituary of Erin M. Shanahan

Please share a memory of Erin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Erin M. Shanahan, 36, of Plains Twp., received her angel wings on Monday, May 29,2023. After fighting her courageous battle with health issues, Erin’s last moments were filled with love and she was surrounded by her family. Erin passed at the Geisinger Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp., arrived at the gates of heaven and was greeted by her dad. Born in Plains Township on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1987, she was the daughter of Marilyn Oliver Shanahan-Krommes and the late Joseph J. Shanahan Jr. During her youth, Erin enjoyed running with her brother Joseph and sharing her love of books with her sister Tami. Erin attended Maffett and Solomon Elementary Schools. During which time, she excelled in many sports, especially softball, field hockey, ice hockey and karate, earning a 2nd degree black belt. As she moved onto higher education at Wyoming Seminary Upper School, Erin continued her participation in softball as a pitcher/catcher, field hockey and ice hockey teams and was the goalie for both. Erin loved sports and was a fierce competitor in everything she did. Erin graduated Seminary with the class of 2005, she then moved onto Clarion University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in history education. During her time at Clarion, besides being the life of the party, Erin participated in the equine club and was the videographer for the football team. In 2003, Erin fell in love with Jacob Baut. Together they were raising their three children Sunny 10, Abel 8, and Maximilian (Max) 3. Erin loved her children more than anything in this world and was so proud to be their Momma. She loved to share with her children some of her favorite hobbies like reading, camping; watching a Disney movie (she could quote most every line from every movie) or sharing her love of everything British. Erin enjoyed music festivals and she and Jake loved going to the Nelson Ledges in Garrettsville, Ohio. Besides reading, one of Erin’s passions was singing. She had an amazing voice and would sing to her children all the time. Her constant companion Princessa will miss her deeply. Erin had a heart of gold and always put others first. Her family was everything to her. Erin’s life the past few years has been extremely difficult battling an ongoing health condition, but it would not put a damper on spending quality time at family gatherings or decorating her British Tutor Christmas Tree. She always found peace in life by the water’s edge and that’s where she is in heaven, by the peaceful waters. Erin joins her father, Joseph; paternal grandparents Joseph and Joan Shanahan; maternal grandfather Peter Yourglivch; Aunts; Uncles; and cousins along with Jake's father Gerhard Baut. Surviving to mourn her homecoming are her mother, Marilyn Shanahan-Krommes; stepfather Charles Krommes; life companion Jacob Baut; children Sunny, Abel, and Maximilian, all of Plains Twp.; brother Joseph Shanahan III, Plains Twp.; sister Tamara Shanahan Brieling, Dallas; niece and goddaughter, Emma Brieling, Tennessee; grandmother Janet Yourglivch, Wilkes-Barre; best friends Lacey, Trina and Krystle; several aunts; uncles; cousins.
