Obituary of Robert G. Karavitch

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert George Karavitch, 85, of Plains Township, was welcomed into his eternal life by his Lord and Savior in the morning hours on Saturday, October 28,2023, while in the care of his family who was by his side. Born on August 30,1938, Robert was a son of the late George and Margaret Javage Karavitch. Robert grew up in the Plains area and graduated from the Plains Memorial High School, class of 1956. This is where his love of baseball began. He played for the high school baseball team and was a diehard fan of the New York Yankees. If you ran into Robert, it was a good chance he was wearing a Yankees cap. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed for his tour of service in Germany. After being honorably discharged, Robert returned to the love of his life, Beatrice Gould. On February 25, 1960, the happy couple was married. Together they raised their four children in the Plains area where they resided for a lifetime. While Beatrice was at home raising their children, Robert was a hard worker. He worked for Prestige Shoe Factory and BF Goodrich for a short time. He then began working for Secodyne (S&F) of Taylor as a chemical specialist for the next thirty years of his life until he retired. Robert throughout his life enjoyed picking mushrooms and making his kielbasa from scratch. He was a proud member of St. Casimir Church until its closure and a current member of St. John’s the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Robert was also a member of the ITLO Club, Hilldale, where he enjoyed shuffle board and playing darts with his friends. Robert was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather that will be missed, but we know he is happy because he will be with his loving wife and family for eternity. Robert was preceded by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Beatrice; daughter Donna Fleig; grandson Andrew Casterlin; and his brother Edward Karavitch. Surviving are sons Robert Jr. and wife Colleen, Sugar Notch; George and wife Betsy, Scranton; daughter Sandy Casterlin and her husband Bryan, Plains; sister Adela “Idy” Palausky, Illinois, grandchildren Kimberly, Brenda, Robert III, Brandon, Emily, George Jr., Jennifer, Timothy, Amanda, Kassandra, Breyann, Bryan Jr., and Andrew; 15 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and extended family. Robert’s funeral services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains Township. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. John’s the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston. Entombment and military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
