Obituary of Barbara Ann Sakavage

Barbara Ann Sakavage, 85, of Plains Township, left her family at her bedside to enter her eternal life on Sunday, December 3, 2023, while in the care of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp. Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of late Michael and Victoria Magdon Day. Barbara was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Joseph Sakavage. Together, they followed Joseph's military career, moving to Maine and Alaska, then returning to the Wyoming Valley. Barbara was employed as a seamstress at Gail's Fashions, Miners-Mills. She changed her career to working as an activity aide for ManorCare, Kingston; Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, and the Mercy Center, Dallas, where she retired from. In her retirement, she still helped others by volunteering at John Heinz Rehabilitation, Wilkes-Barre. Barbara was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a past member of St. Francis Church and St. Dominic's of Wilkes-Barre, and a current member of the SS. Peter and Paul Parish Community, Plains. Barbara enjoyed singing in the church choir, was active in church social events, and enjoyed making crafts. Barbara is now joined in her eternal life with her parents, husband Joseph, son Gary; brother Michael Day, and sister Geraldine Machinas. She is now survived by her son Joseph Sakavage and his companion Jamie Sesnowich, Wilkes-Barre; daughter Christine Gozick and her husband Mark, Plains Twp.; grandchildren Chelsea Sakavage and her fiancé Cody Healey, Dallas; Marley Zelinka and her husband TJ, Moosic; and Collin Gozick and his companion Jennie Skursky, VA; great granddaughter Stella Healey, Dallas; sisters Rosalie Reiss and her husband Ronald, Wilkes-Barre; brother Gabriel Day, Plains Twp.; brother David Day and his wife Carol, Wilkes-Barre; sister Gloria Dressler, Wilkes-Barre; brother Gregory Day and his wife Cheryl, Wilkes-Barre; sister Deborah Fox and her husband James, Lehighton; and sister Kathleen Ketel and her husband Wouter, NC, along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held on Thursday, December 7, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 8 at 10:00 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road. Family and friends are asked to gather that morning at the church. Mass will be officiated by the Rev. John C. Lambert, Pastor. Interment will be held privately at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming. For those unable to attend Mass service will be live stream on the SS. Peter and Paul Facebook Page.
