Obituary of Daniel William Coffay

Daniel William Coffay, 52, of Wilkes-Barre, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all, passed on Sunday, August 14, 2022. Born in Wilkes-Barre on March 19,1970, he was one of five children to the late Joseph and Mary Ann Chismer Coffay. Dan grew up in Wilkes-Barre and attended Dan Flood Elementary School and was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, class of 1990. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and became a sea-bee on the USS South Carolina- CGN37. He and his shipmate were part of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. For his service, Dan was awarded several medals and was honorably discharged. Returning home, Daniel married the former Kathryn Wolfe on May 17, 1996. Together they raised three children: Ethan, Lauren, and Ryan, in their home in Wilkes-Barre. Dan worked as a truck driver for Estes for several years until a work-related injury rendered him disabled. Prior to this injury, Dan enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his family. He was actively involved in the Plains American Legion, Post 558. He was still able to enjoy watching his favorite teams the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Phillies. When with him, you would enjoy his love of music for Stix’s, and old country musicians. Dan now joins in heaven his loving father Joseph Coffay, Oct. 19,2009; mother Mary Ann Coffay Sept. 4, 1996, and his son Ryan Coffay, May 26,2020. Surviving are his wife Kathryn, at home; son Ethan, Wilkes-Barre, daughter Lauren and her boyfriend Kevin; Wilkes-Barre, grandchildren Jade Murnan and Ryan Murnan, Wilkes-Barre; sisters and brothers: Bridget and Joseph Ferdinand, Wilkes-Barre; Arlene and Joseph Coffay, Wilkes-Barre; Mary and Steve Fowler, Wilkes-Barre; Michele and John Coffay, Plains; and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20,2022, at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Beginning at 8:00 p.m., Rev. Joseph Kearney, will officiate a blessing service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Twp. Mass will be officiated by Rev. John C. Lambert, officiant and pastor of parish. Entombment will follow later in the day at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Mary's Mausoleum in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Military honors will be rendered by the Plains American Legion Post 558, and the United States Navy.
