Genevieve M. Figel, 95, of Plains Township, passed into heaven on Wednesday, February 10,2021, while under the care of Allied Services Meade Street Skilled Nursing, Wilkes-Barre. Born on East Stanton Street in the Hudson section of Plains Township, on December 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Margaret Wilk Bohinski. She attended St. Joseph Elementary School, Hudson, and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School class of 1943. From the age of 18 until she retired at the age of 65, Genevieve worked in our local garment industry as a seamstress and several dress factories in our area. She was also a proud member of the I.L.G.W.U. Throughout her life, above all, Genevieve was a devout Catholic and a past member of St. Joseph Church, Hudson, until the church’s closure, and a current member of Saints Peter and Paul’s Parish, Plains. During her life she enjoyed going to Polka dances with her husband Michael, listening to Polkas on the radio and television and influencing her son Ronald’s passion for accordion playing. She was a lifelong sports enthusiast for the local sports teams and a dedicated Penn State Football fan. She also enjoyed taking trips to our casinos with family and friends. When at home, Genevieve enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and making some fresh noodles for a meal. At the end of the day, you could find her at the dinner table working on the daily crossword puzzle, but don’t call her at 3:00 p.m. she was praying the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy and the rosary with the Franciscan Fathers on the EWTN Catholic Station. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years Michael, and sister Eleanor Binker. Surviving Mrs. Figel are her daughter Michalene Zurek and her husband Stanley, Plains; son Ronald and his wife Karen, Plains; sister Marie Kowalski and her husband Stanley, Plains; granddaughters Kristen Susek and husband Michael, Laflin, and Lauren Fusek and husband Tyler, Wilkes-Barre; great grandchildren Julian Susek and Stanley Fusek, goddaughter Donna DiGiuseppe, Chalfant, and nieces and nephews.
