Obituary of Anna Catherine Geary

Anna Catherine Geary, 94, of Plains Township, entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, February 28,2021, while in the care of the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas. Born in Hazleton, on July 25, 1926, she was one of thirteen siblings of John and Mary Janovsky Lukatch. Anna grew up in the Hazleton area and attended St. Joseph Elementary School and was a graduate of the Hazelton Senior High School, class of 1944. After graduation, Anna found employment with Plains Blouse as a seamstress. On July 25, 1952, she married the love of her life Arthur Geary Jr., together the couple raised their two daughters Anne and Lucille. After the birth of her children, Anna remained at home to care for her family. You could also find her walking barefoot through her back yard while tending to her vegetables and flowers, or cooking up some great Polish meals in the kitchen. You could not finish a meal without having one of her raisin cookies, pastries or a pumpkin square. Anna at her core was a devout Christian. She was a past member of St. Joseph Parish in Hazleton as a child and young adult; Sacred Heart Parish, Plains, and a current member of St. Maria Goretti’s Parish, Laflin. In her later years, Anna enjoyed becoming a grandmother and great grandmother. She was the true matriarch of the family and will forever be missed. Anna was preceded in death by her loving parents, husband Arthur; brothers Edward, Peter, John, Leo, Emil; sisters Mary Gaughan, Martha Minnig, Theresa Hadzick, Agnes Reed, Margaret Zabrosky, Helen Kringer. Surviving are her daughters Anne Geary, North Carolina; Lucille Harrison (Ernest), Inkerman; grandchildren Victoria Rolinc (John), Bloomsburg; Catherine Roberts, Weatherly; Jessica Roberts Petroski, Plains; James Halye (Cynthia), North Carolina; and Dr. Chelsea Harrison (Paul Schneck), Taylor; great grandchildren Christian Roberts, Caden Roberts, Alyssa Cheever, Alize Halye, Alexander James (A.J.) Halye, and her sister Dorothy Harris, Levittown. Funeral Service for Anna will be held on Friday, March 5, at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. in St. Maria Goretti Parish, Laflin. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnock. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed and masks are required for entry to all services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations could be made to St. Maria Goretti’s Parish for a memorial donation plaque in Anna’s memory.
