Obituary of Joanne M Corbett

Joanne M. Corbett,86, of Wilkes-Barre, passed peacefully on Monday, May 24,2021, while in the care of the Allied Service Meade Street Facility, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre on January 4, 1935, Joanne was a daughter to the late Joseph and Anna Morahan Mahon. She grew up in Wilkes-Barre and attended Saint Ann’s Elementary School and was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary. Joanne worked in the N.P.W, Valley Crest Nursing Facility, and several doctor’s offices. She later opened the Mary’s Dress Shop on River Road in Plains Township. She was a religious woman all her life. She was a past member of St. Theresa’s Church, South Wilkes-Barre, St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, and a current member of Saints Peter and Paul, Church, Plains Twp. Joanne married her love, James Corbett, and together they settled in Wilkes-Barre to raise their two daughters: Mary Ellen and Margaret, and two sons: James and Raymond. Joanne took on the responsibility of home maker and raised their family for many years. As the children got older and started their own families. Joanne filled her time with seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed being a member of the Wyoming Valley Woman’s Club, going golfing, and visiting our local casinos. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Anna; husband James; daughters Mary Ellen Brislin and Margaret Benkowski and brother-in-law Jim Yost. Surviving are her sons James and his wife Linda, Wilkes-Barre; and Raymond, Wilkes-Barre; sisters Marge Yost, Cincinnati, OH; Marilyn Elliott and her husband David, Cold Springs, Kentucky; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two nieces, and two nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Joanne on Wednesday June 2, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in the Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. John Lambert, officiant and pastor. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Friends and family may call at the church prior to the mass, starting at 9:30 A.M.
