Margaret “Peggy” Gawelko,78, of Wilkes-Barre, passed on Wednesday, January 12,2022, while in the care of the Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Wilkes-Barre on September 30,1943, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Drust Miller. Peggy grew up in the city and attended local school and attended James M. Coughlin. Peggy was a hard worker all her life. She was a lifelong police and fire dispatcher for the city of Wilkes-Barre and also a past member of the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board. Everyone who knew her knows how she loved to socialize and catch up when she saw you. She especially enjoyed lunches with her grandson Brandon. She was an avid reader of romance novels and loved watching her soaps on television. Peg was a skilled seamstress that could make a dress lickety split. When she was able to, she loved to travel to different destinations and she would also find a new chachki to add to her collections at home. She was a past member of the St. Francis Church, Miners-Mills. Margaret is preceded in death by her loving parents; brothers Joseph Swelgin and Albert Miller; sisters Dolores Kennedy and Teresa Goldner. She is survived by her son Patrick Gawelko, Wilkes-Barre; grandson Brandon Gawelko, Wilkes-Barre; sister Mary Mroz, Wilmington, DE, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Margaret on Tuesday, January 18,2022, at 10:00 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. John Lambert, pastor.
