Robert L(Bobby). Matkins, 75, of Hudson, died Thursday, February 3, 2022, in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp., with his family by his side.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on October 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Leo and Stella Shivell Matkins.

Bobby was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1964. He was proud of achieving his Eagle Scout rank with the Boy Scouts of America. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. He attended electrician’s mate school and was stationed on the U.S.S Uvalde(AKA-88).

Bobby was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a life member of the American Legion Post 558 of Plains Twp. He retired from the Wilkes-Barre Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Bobby cared deeply for his family and friends. He was a kindhearted person and always there to lend a helping hand. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed creating landscapes in his yard.

The family would like to thank Pastor Mike Kronk and the members of Valley Cities Baptist Church for welcoming Bobby and guiding him in his faith journey. We are grateful for the constant support given during Bobby’s hospitalization. We are comforted to know Bobby was at peace when he was called home.

Bobby was preceded in death by his loving parents Leo and Stella, and an infant son Robert.

Surviving are his brother Edward and his wife Arline, Laflin; sister Rita Egan and her husband Jack, Hudson; his loving companion Rita Gruver, Wilkes-Barre; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Bobby will be laid to rest with his brothers and sisters in service to our country in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville , in a private service for his family.
