Donald William Smacher, Sr., age 80 of Forest Hill, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. Born March 29, 1942 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Florence (Kresge) Smacher.

Donald graduated from Coughlin High School in 1960. He attended Penn State University before serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from General Motors Corporation after 29 years of service. After retirement he returned to Bear Creek, PA to reside until moving to Maryland to be with his children in 2010.

Donald is survived by his son, Donald "DJ" W. Smacher, Jr. and his wife Marla of Bel Air, MD; his daughter, Donna S. Mandl and her husband Karl of Aberdeen, MD; sister, Carole Stahovic of Bear Creek Twp; grandsons Michael R. Smacher and his wife Jordan; Matthew Smacher and Ryan N. Mandl; granddaughter, Rebecca L. Mandl; great-grandson, Cole V. Smacher; niece Lori Chase and her husband Matthew of Bear Creek Twp.; nephew Rock Stahovic and his wife Robyn of Plains Township; great-niece Ashley Chase; and great-nephews Matthew Chase and Tait and Teague Stahovic.

He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Smacher, his sister, Ella McCallin, his brother-in-law Joseph Stahovic and his brother-in-law Martin McCallin.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 27,2022, from 5:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at the McComas Funeral Home, P.A. (Abingdon)

1317 Cokesbury Road, Abingdon, MD, 21009. A local visitation will be held on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains, PA, 18705. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, with military honors at 12:00 p.m.
