A giant of Wilkes-Barre passed on October 6, 2022, while in the care of the UPMC of Harrisburg. He wasn't a giant in stature, but that of character and heart. Gary Joseph Eric Georgetti, 69, of Mechanicsburg, was called home to heaven by his Lord and Savior. Gary was born in Wilkes-Barre on July 21, 1953. He was one of five children of the late Robert A. Sr. and Helen L Backiel Georgetti. Gary grew up in the Miners-Mills section of the city with his family and attended local school. He was a graduate of James M. Coughlin class of 1973. Gary was employed by Pittston Fashions for many years. He retired after working at Denny's as a service assistant for 14 years. He loved his jobs, was very dedicated, and found much joy in his relationships with fellow employees. He had been featured in newspaper articles for his work ethics and involvement in programs that made a difference. He participated in the Step by Step program and volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels. Gary was active in the Special Olympics of Wilkes- Barre and Mechanicsburg where he participated in bowling and weightlifting competitions for many years. He enjoyed life, but most of all he loved his family and friends. He always looked forward to family gatherings and enjoyed attending dances with his friends for all occasions, and many church bazaars, and picnics over the years. Gary loved all kinds of music. He always shared with everyone his love of facts and statistics. To hear Gary laugh, as he often did, was contagious. With a hug and smile from Gary, you knew how much he loved you. He had a pure heart and tremendous faith. Gary was the life of a party. At night he enjoyed watching WVIA and listening to the Polkas or watching the Lawrence Welk Show. He was the Hallmark Channel's Number #1 fan and also enjoyed concerts and theater performances. When it came to music for Gary, he would tell you, Pat Benetar was his Diva. He enjoyed reading and visiting the library regularly . Gary was a past member of St. Francis Church, and Holy Name Society , Saints Peter and Paul Church, and a current member of St. Joseph Church, Mechanicsburg. He loved football and was a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders, and Penn State Nittany Lions, but you could also find him at the Mohegan Sun Arena cheering on the Penguins hockey team. A golden heart has gone to heaven to join his loving father Robert, 2013, mother Helen 2020; and brothers, Robert A. Jr., 1967, and Laurence,1999. Surviving are his brother Luke and his wife, Christine, Mechanicsburg; sister, Pamela Murphy and her husband, Nicholas, Minnetonka, Minn.; sister-in-law, Lori Tillger; "brother-in-law" Mike Tillger; six nieces and nephews: Angelo, Marcus, Gemma, Thea, Merryn and Kevin; along with numerous cousins and extended family Funeral Services for Gary will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains Twp. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Church , 13 Hudson Rd. Plains. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. John C. Lambert, pastor. Gary will be interred with his family at the St. Francis Cemetery, Plains Township. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations could be given to the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Area M,55 Miller St, Enola PA 17025, Please notate: Gary Georgetti, or Saints Peter and Paul Food Pantry, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Twp., Pa, 18705.
