Alan Francis Kross, 59, formerly of Plains Township, passed unexpectedly of natural causes at his private residence in Scranton on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Born in Plains Township on August 22, 1963, he was one of five children of Theodore R. Kross Sr. and Theresa A. Zdancewicz Kross. Alan grew up in the Hudson section of Plains with his family and he attended St. Joseph's and Saints Peter and Paul Elementary Schools. He was a member of the Boy Scouts, Troop 11 of Plains. Alan graduated with the class of 1981 from Bishop Hoban High School where he participated on the men's swim team swimming the freestyle events. After graduation, Alan joined the United States Air Force where he pursued his love of working with his hands in electronics and machinery. After his discharge from service, Alan returned home to continue his passion in the field of electronics and machinery. He held employment with several companies throughout his career. Alan enjoyed gardening and spending time appreciating his backyard wildlife by feeding the birds, chipmunks and squirrels. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Theodore and Anna Kryznewski; maternal grandparents Francis and Louise Henczel Zdancewicz; his aunts Louise Jones and Sister Magnifica, a Bernadine Sister, his uncle Ronald Kross, and his grand-nephew Samuel Wade Wardrop. Alan is survived by his loving parents Theodore and Theresa, Plains; sister Donna Updyke and her husband Alan, Mountaintop; brothers Mark, Plains; and Theodore Jr. and his wife Gina, Exeter; sister Kimberly Novak and her husband Gregg, South Abington; son Joshua, Georgia; nieces and nephews: Karissa Kross; Kayla Fiedler; Kaitlyn Kross; Gavin Kross; Rhea Kross; Zachary Updyke; Theodore Novak; Gregg Novak Jr.; Christian Novak; and Jonathan Novak; great nieces Theadora Kross and Layla Kross. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin. Mass will be celebrated by Father Alex Roche, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hudson. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alan's memory may be given to the St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, PA, 18702 or Bernadine Franciscan Sisters, 450 St. Bernadine Street, Reading, PA 19607.
