Obituary of Frances L. Mattiucci

Frances (Franny) Lucille Mattiucci, 91, of the Hudson section of Plains Twp. passed peacefully through heaven's gate on Friday, August 18,2023, while in the care of the Hampton House, Wilkes-Barre Born on October 21, 1931, in the Keystone section of Plains, she was one of four children of the late John and Alvira Pascucci Panatieri. Franny attended local schools and was a graduate of the Plains Memorial High School, class of 1949. Franny was employed in the local garment industry. She worked for Fifi Frock, Ralph Gambini and retired from Leslie Fay in 1993, where she worked as a zipper setter. Frances married Paul Mattiucci and resided in the Hudson area of Plains. Together they raised two children Garry and Joann. At a young age, Garry unfortunately passed on June 14, 1960. Frances was a prominent and faithful parishioner of the St. Joseph Church in Hudson until its closure. When the church was operating, Franny helped to organize and run the St. Joseph Bazaar where her family helped to run the kitchen area and the potato pancake stand. Many of her family recipes and other church members' recipes were utilized to make the bazaar a success throughout the years. Frances was also a member of the church’s Christian Mothers Society, quilters group, and helped to arrange many of the church’s bingo, pierogi fundraisers along with the paczki fundraisers. In her later years, after the church’s closure, Franny along with her family members kept the church pierogi recipe alive by making them for the holidays and special occasions. After the church’s closure, Frances became a parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Plains. Throughout her life, Franny enjoyed participating in the community. For over fifty years, she worked the voting polls and retired as the judge of elections serving the Hudson and Plains area. During her retirement, she was still staying active with the Senior Citizens Group of Plains. Franny helped to organize selling of group baskets, aided in helping as the town’s Night Out Event, and setting up group activities. Franny also enjoyed going on family trips to help support town fundraises, spending some time with her friends at the local casino, or going on several bus trips to Atlantic City. Franny was a faithful servant of her God, her family, and her community, and she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her kind soul. Frances is now joined in heaven with her loving parents, John and Alvira; husband Paul, son Garry, and brothers Sylvester and John Panatieri. Surviving to mourn her passing are her daughter Joann Sabol and her husband Daniel, Hudson; granddaughter Danielle Sabol and her fiancé Joseph Schreckengost, Hudson; grandson Garry Sabol, Hudson; brother Eugene Panatieri and his wife Pauline, Laflin. Frances’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, beginning at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Parish, 13 Hudson Road, Plains. Mass will be celebrated by Rev. John C. Lambert, Pastor. Interment and committal prayers will be held in the Italian Independent Cemetery of West Wyoming. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday, August 21, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Frances’s name may be made to the Senior Citizens Group- Bernadine Hall, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Twp., PA, 18705.
