Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie “Mamie” Gross Zupa, 92, of the Miners-Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed peacefully in her home with her loving family by her side on Monday, October 9, 2023. Born on December 8, 1930, she was one of four children of the late James Sr. and Anna DePolo Gross of Keystone. At a young age, the family moved to Bear Creek where she attended the Oliver School and later, James M. Coughlin High School. Marie began working for Woolworths at the age of 15. Three years later, a mutual friend introduced Marie to Robert Zupa. They fell in love and were married a short time later. The new couple moved to the town of Hanover where Marie became a mother to her two daughters, Debra and Marguerite. Her family was everything. She enjoyed raising her daughters. After her daughters were married and started families of their own, Mamie was there to help raise their three grandsons. She took great pride in the adults they have become. Marie especially enjoyed Friday nights, when the family all gathered for dinner to catch up on how everyone’s week was going. Throughout her life, Marie enjoyed going to the Bloomsburg Fair, watching her favorite movie Coal Miner’s Daughter, and going shopping with her family and friends. Mamie was the heart of our family and at this time we are lost without her love and presence. We love you and will miss you, until we meet again. Marie is preceded in death by her parents James Sr. and Anna; loving husband of thirty-five years, Robert Zupa; sister Margaret Bartoletti; and brothers Joseph and James Jr. She is survived by her loving daughters Debra Nowakowski and her husband Stanley, Miners-Mills; and Marguerite Klubeck and her husband Steven, Miners-Mills; her three grandsons Ronnie Mitra and his wife Jessica, Belle Mead, NJ; Robert Klubeck, Miners-Mills; and Ryan Klubeck and his wife Elizabeth, Pittston, three great grandchildren Bailey Mitra; Reagan Mitra, and Matthew Klubeck; along with nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend a wake to be held on Friday, October 13, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., A second visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 at the funeral home. A funeral service will begin promptly after. Service will be officiated by Rev. Alex Roche, pastor of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin. Interment will follow with the Rite of Committal to be held in the chapel at the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105-9959
