Richard J. Kuczynski, Sr., 79, of Plains Township, passed away at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital on Monday, January 8, 2024 after an illness.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on May 12, 1944, he was the son of the late Adam and Albina (Niznik) Kuczynski. Richard was a graduate of Coughlin High School. He served in the United States Army. Afterwards, he attended West Side Area Vo-Tech where he received his certification in Electrical Wiring. As a licensed electrician, he worked for CEO and the West Side Mall. He then continued working self-employed until his retirement.

Richard lived in Plains for 52 years. During that time, he coached as an assistant for the Plains Little League. He also delivered the local newspaper to many Plains residents, who thoroughly enjoyed his exceptional service.

Upon his retirement, he became a member of the Harvey’s Lake Rod & Gun Club, where he enjoyed trap shooting with his buddies. His love for this hobby garnered many “25 shot” pins for perfect shooting.

Richard was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State Football fan. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, trips to the grocery store with his daughter, and listening to his favorite music.

He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 54 years, Marsha (Skordensky) Kuczynski. He is also survived by his daughter, Tanya and her husband, Gary Kohler, of Taylor; son, Richard J. Kuczynski, Jr. and granddaughter, Emily, of New York; brother Jerome Kuczynski, of Swoyersville; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark Street, Plains. Funeral service with Military Honors will begin at 4:00 p.m.
