Cindy J. Shannon Obituary

Cynthia “Cindy” Jean Shannon, 67, of Nanticoke, passed on Thursday, March 21, 2024, while in the expert care of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, ICU Unit, Wilkes-Barre. Cindy’s loving family was with her as she left for her eternal life in her Lord’s kingdom.


Born in Pittsburgh on September 10, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Florence Welsby Jones. Cindy grew up in the suburbs of the city and attended local schools. She was a graduate of the Baldwin High School, class of 1974. She continued her education at the Allegheny Community College where she attained an associate degree in computer science.


On March 5, 1977, Cindy married the love of her life Ed Shannon. The newlyweds started their family in Whitehall, PA, where they raised two children: Jason and Heather. A short time later the family moved to Elizabeth, PA, and in 1990 they relocated to the Nanticoke area where they reside today.


During these years, Cindy worked for First Peoples Bank that through mergers became Wells Fargo Bank. Cindy started as a bank teller and after a thirty-year career in banking she retired as the service manager in 2016.


Over her lifetime, Cindy enjoyed going camping or “glamping” as she called it with her family to Lewisburg and other camping areas throughout our state. She was an animal lover and cared for anything with four paws.


At her core she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother to her grandchildren, and mom to her fur babies. She was a devout member of the First United Methodist Church of Nanticoke.


Cindy is now joins in heaven her parents Arthur and Florence.


Surviving to mourn her homegoing are her loving husband of forty-seven years, Ed, at home; daughter Heather Shannon and her partner Tim Himlin, Kingston; son Jason and his wife Danielle, Larksville; step grandchildren Jake and Derek Davis, Larksville; sister Joyce Dickinson and her husband Tim, Prescott, Arizona; brother-in- law Glenn and his partner Cindy, Pittsburgh; nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and her fur babies Mr. Beans; Buddy, Shady, and Ruby.


The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley ICU Unit for their expert care and compassion shown to Cindy and her family in her waning hours.


Please join us in celebrating the life of Cynthia J. Shannon. A service will be held on the 8th of June at 11:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 267 East Main Street, Nanticoke, PA, 18634.
