Please share a memory of Regina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Regina Margaret Chmura, former long-time resident of Laflin, was called to her Eternal reward with the Lord on August 28, 2024. She passed surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter in Harrisburg, with whom she resided. Born in Kingston, PA, on April 4, 1938, she was the second oldest of six children of their late parents John V., Sr. and Julia (Throop) Mulhern. Moving to Wilkes-Barre early in her life, Regina attended St. Leo’s Elementary and St. Leo’s High School, Ashley, graduating in 1956. She married her life’s love, Leon S. Chmura, in 1965. They spent 22 happy years together, raised three children and built a loving home until, sadly, Leon passed away in 1987. Regina was a woman of deep faith. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She was an active member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Laflin, and remained informed about what was happening at her parish after she relocated. Before and after raising her children, Regina held a variety of jobs, starting while still in high school at the Boston Store, Bon Ton and Sears, among others. A gentle spirit and a loving soul, she collected valued friendships among her co-workers which she maintained throughout her life. Music was an important part of Regina’s life. She enjoyed singing in the choir and going to the symphony. She also cherished her time with friends – going to lunch or the movies, shopping, or just visiting. She cared deeply for them. In addition to her husband, Leon, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Mulhern; sisters Gertrude Fealy and Sally Thomas. Above all, Regina adored her family and devoted her love, care and concern to their well-being. Left to carry on her legacy of love are her children, daughter Regina J. Zaikoski, and her husband Leonard, Harrisburg; sons Leon W., Stafford, VA and Mark S., and his wife Nicole, Wilkes-Barre; she delighted in being Grandma to Alex and Colin and Grandma Regina to Christopher; brother John V, Mulhern and his wife Bobbie, Huntingtown, MD; sister Agnes Fedock and her husband Bill, Dallas, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family for a visitation and time of remembrance this Friday, September 6, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Parish, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., celebrated by Rev. Alex Roach, pastor and homilist of the service. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Funeral services have been placed in the care of Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains Twp. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Laflin, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. It was a gift to be there to provide and care for our mother who was caring for us all our lives. She provided many invaluable life lessons and showed us how love and dedication to her family and faith can get you through even the hardest of times. We love you and thank you for everything. Mom faithfully and joyfully prayed every day for the Lord to help people she knew and loved but also for those whom she did not know personally, but whom she knew were suffering some difficulty in their life. A beautiful tribute honoring her would be showing extra care and concern to those lives you touch.
