Cheryl Day, 69, of Wilkes-Barre entered her eternal life on December 18 at home ,
surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with liver disease.
Born in Linden, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late John and Teresa
(Kuharchik) McNeil. Cheryl was a graduate of Wyoming Area High School, class of
1973. After graduation, Cheryl attended LCCC to obtain her RN. She later received her
BSN at Misericordia University.
Cheryl was a registered nurse before retiring in 2018. She primarily worked at Geisinger
Wyoming Valley. Cheryl loved being a nurse and caring for those most in need.
Cheryl was a proud mother and grandma. Cheryl was an avid Wilkes-Barre Scranton
Penguins fan, loved shopping, and going to the casino. One of her favorite places to
visit was Walt Disney World, where many family vacations were had. Cheryl enjoyed
supporting both her children and grandchildren at all of the various sports and activities
throughout the years. Her favorite time of the year was Christmastime, where she
always made sure that her children and grandchildren had a great Christmas. She loved
the Wizard of Oz, especially the Wicked Witch of the West.
Cheryl is joined in her eternal life with her parents, John and Teresa McNeil, brother,
Thomas McNeil Sr., and infant brothers, Joseph and Walter McNeil.
She is survived by her husband, Gregory Day, whom she celebrated 48 years of
marriage with in August, her daughter Carrie Kupsho and her husband Larry Kupsho,
Drums ; daughter Lisa Day and her wife Ryan Purdy, Wilkes-Barre ; daughter Christine
Day and her fiancé Tony Price, Wilkes-Barre; daughter Leslie Baloga and her husband
T.J. Baloga, Plains; brother John McNeil Jr and wife Bonnie , Exeter; brother Richard
McNeil and wife Nancy, Exeter ; grandchildren Kiera and Gregory Kupsho, Drums, and
Luke and Reese Baloga, Plains, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service for Cheryl will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains. Mass will be officiated by the Rev. John C. Lambert, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Exeter.
Friends and family are also invited to a visitation to be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
