Obituary of Sandra R. Swaditch

Sandra R. Swaditch, 77, of the Miners-Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center, Wilkes-Barre where she resided.
Born on April 1, 1947, in Wilkes-Barre. Sandy graduated from E.L. Meyers High School, Class of 1966. She was very active in the school marching band and was able to play the piano, flute, and piccolo.
Sandy was a skilled receptionist for over thirty-five years working for Mary MacIntosh Service; Benco Dental; and retiring early (in 2009) from Friedman Electric to care for her husband George. After fifty years of marriage George passed on July 6, 2019, one week shy of their fifty first anniversary.
Sandy loved the outdoors and camping. She was skilled at crochet and made dozens of christening outfits over the years. She was the group leader of the Wilderness Family 4H Club of Wilkes-Barre and a notary public for many years. She was a member of the “Red Hot Divas”. A Red Hat Society group
Sandy had a big heart for animals. All the dog walkers on Mayock Street would stop at her home for treats, conversations, & doggie kisses. The neighborhood stray cats knew where to come for a free meal & loving from the notes the dog’s left about the quality of treats at her home.
Sandy was preceded in death by her loving husband George Jr.
Surviving are her daughter Laurea Swaditch, Wilkes-Barre and her ex husband Mark Kimsel, Dallas; sons Joseph, Buck Twp; and Michael and his wife Jessica, Wilkes-Barre; Sister-in-law Linda Hassay and her husband John, Inkerman; grandchildren Corey, Mia, Nicholas, and Serenity, a nephew, and her loving cat TeenyToes.
Funeral Service for Sandy will be held on Tuesday January 7,2025, at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains, with the Office of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Byzantine Church, 695 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Dallas.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Allied Services for making sure Sandy was comfortable during her stay.
