Benjamin M. Bennick, 68, of Plains Township, was stricken ill at his private residences on Saturday, January 18,2014.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son to the late Bennie and Sophie Samek Bennick. Benjamin attended school in Plains and was a graduate of the Plains Memorial High School, class of 1963. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Benjamin was an engine man and engine mechanic on the USS Chicago for his tours of duty.
After returning home, he married the former Dorothy Stachowski in 1969. Together they celebrated 44 years of marriage. During this time Benjamin found employment with Trion Industries of Plains, Flextronics International Inc. USA of Kingston, Candlewood Suites of Plains in maintenance and Muskins Leisure as a press operator for thirty-six years until his retirement.
Benjamin was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains.
He loved to go hunting, fishing with his family and friends, working on his old cars, and visiting the beach at Ocean city, Md.
He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, at home; son Matt and his wife Erica, Forty-Fort, his sister Nancy Lohman and her husband Alan, West Grove, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Benjamin will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 9:00a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home 55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30am in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Plains.
