Obituary of Marie Ann Gryczko

Marie Ann Gryczko, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, while in the care of the Celtic Hospice Facility, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Stephan and Anna Molitoris Gasper. She attended Sacred Heart Slovak school, and James M. Coughlin High School.
After leaving school, Marie was employed by the Penn Metal Company, and Prestige Shoe Company, both of Wilkes-Barre. While holding her job, Maria attended Bradford Beauty School. She graduated and opened Marie's Beauty Salon. She was in business for forty plus years.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Slovak Parish, until the closure of the church. She was currently a member of the St. Andre Bessette Parish, Wilkes-Barre. She was the president of the St. Stephen the Martyr, First Slovak Catholic Union, and a past volunteer at John Heinz Rehabilitation.
Marie loved to dance, especially to Polka music. She enjoyed going to local bingo's and most recently the casino with her friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband of twenty six years, Andrew Gryczko, who passed unexpectedly in 1974; and her sister Theresa Firda.
She is survived by her son David and his wife Bella, Wilkes-Barre, sister Ann Altavilla, Plains, brother John Gasper and his wife Christine, Indiana , and a grand daughter Lisa Benkowski, Kingston, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marie's funeral will be held on Saturday December 14, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc.,55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 666 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Mass will be officiated by her nephew Rev. Philip Altavilla. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dallas. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Friday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.
