Obituary of Victor Casimir Zawadzki

Reverend Victor Casimir Zawadzki, was called home by the Lord on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Father Zawadzki, the youngest son of the late Boleslaus and Wiktoria Sawlaw Zawadzki, was born in Plymouth on November 14, 1924. He received his early education at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary School and graduated from Saint Vincent's High School in Plymouth. Father graduated from Saint Charles College in Catonsville, Maryland and completed his studies for the priesthood at Saint Peter's Seminary in London, Ontario, Canada. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1950, in Saint Peter's Cathedral, Scranton, by the Most Reverend William J. Hafey, D.D., late Bishop of Scranton.
Father Zawadzki served as assistant pastor at St. Elizabeth's, Bear Creek; Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Wilkes-Barre; St. Adalbert's, Glen Lyon; Saint Hedwig's, Kingston and Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Plymouth. Father Zawadzki's first pastorate began on September 3, 1969 at Saint Martha's, Fairmount Springs. He was then assigned pastor of Saint Joseph's in Hudson on September 7, 1976 where he remained until he retired and was named Pastor Emeritus on July 1, 1997. In his retirement, he enjoyed painting and spending time at his lake home.
Father Zawadzki also served the diocese as President of Bishop Hoban High School and Procurator of Bishop O'Reilly High School.
He is survived by a brother Leo, Laflin, a sister Frances Kuscavage, New Jersey and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Stanley, Walter, Anthony and a niece, Theresa Zawatski.
Viewing will take place at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, on Monday, December 09, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Vigil Mass will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Church, Plains, at 7:00 p.m., with Reverend John V. Polednak, V.E., presiding.
A Pontifical Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, D.D., J.C.L., Bishop of Scranton, on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Interment will be in Saint Mary's Nativity Cemetery, Plymouth Township.
In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Little Flower Manor, 260 S. Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre 18702 or SS. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains, PA 18705.
