Obituary of Jean Rose Wisniewski

Jean Rose Wisniewski, 85, of Wilkes- Barre, passed away at home on Wednesday, April, 1, 2015, while in the care of hospice and her loving family. Born in Wilkes-Barre on October 7, 1929, she was a daughter to the late Stanley and Anna Juniewicz Soboleski. At a young age, the Soboleski family moved to Norfolk, Virginia. When Jean was sixteen, she returned to Wilkes-Barre. She graduated from James M. Coughlin High School, class of 1947. After graduating, she started to work at several local factories in Wilkes-Barre and also for Kimberly Quality Care for the Mentally Disabled where she was a caregiver. On July 3, 1954, Jean married Matthew Wisniewski. After a short time, she took on the responsibilities of being a mother and homemaker to their three children: Sandra, Diane, and Matthew. Jean and Matthew celebrated thirty four years of marriage until Matthew's unexpected passing on December 12, 1988.After Matthew had passed; Jean helped to raise her four grandchildren. She loved caring and spending time with them. They became her world. Jean loved music and going to concerts with family or to sneak off on her own to hear some of her favorite music from Neil Diamond to Daniel O'Donnell . She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul church, Plains. Jean is preceded in death by her husband Matthew; brothers Raymond and Thomas Sobelski; stepbrother Stanley Sobelski; step sisters Barbara Culp ,Carol Gryzka Stucker, and Gloria Jean Aaron. Jean is survived by her daughters Sandra Wisnewski, Wilkes-Barre; Diane Tona and her husband Joseph, Plains; son Matthew Wisnewski, West Wyoming; sisters Rita McMillan, Wilkes-Barre; Loretta Banashefski and her husband George, Wilkes-Barre Township; four grandchildren Joseph, Mary, Adam, and Anna; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 2:00 pm in St. Benedict's Parish at the St. Dominic's Worship Site, 155 Austin Avenue, Parsons. Mass for Jean will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Kearney, pastor. Interment will be held in Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Plains. Friends and family may call at the church on Monday from 1:00 pm to time of Mass. A gathering for family and friends will also be held from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm on Monday evening at Café American Bistro, Route 315, Plains Twp. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be given to the Plains Volunteer Ambulance, 90 Maffett St, Plains, Pa, 18705 or the SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E Main St, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18702.
