Obituary of Donald Charles Langdon

Donald C. Langdon,71, of the Hudson section of Plains Township, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday,February 19, 2015, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born on June 4, 1943, in Kingston, he was a son to the late Ernest and Beatrice Ellsworth Langdon. He was a graduate of James M. Coughlin, class of 1962. He attended King's College, and then later joined the U.S. Navy. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War, serving as a Radioman Third Class on the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier. He was also part of Operation Sea Orbit which was an around-the-world cruise of the United States Navy's Task Force One, consisting of USS Enterprise, USS Long Beach, and USS Bainbridge. This all-nuclear-powered unit steamed 30,565 miles unrefuelled around the world for sixty-five days. Following his discharge from the service, Donald became a manager of a local car wash in Wilkes-Barre. After a short time, Donald took up employment with the D&H railroad as a locomotive engineer and was employed for several years. He was also employed by the Stegmaier Brewing Company, Wilkes-Barre and he later retired from the Canadian Pacific Railroad in 2008. Donald was a past member of the Brookside American Legion, Post 837, and was the Post Commander for a term. He was a current member of the American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon Post 558, Plains, the Polish American Veterans, Plains, and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineer and Trainmen, Division 263. Donald enjoyed gardening, hunting,culinary arts, reading, and was a fan of the Eagles football and Duke basketball teams. Donald was preceded in death by his sister Lucille Kondrawski. Surviving are his daughter Jennifer Langdon, Dallas; sons Brian and his wife Elizabeth, Berea, OH; Michael, Hanover Twp., and Donald D. , Hanover Twp; brother Robert and his wife Mary Margaret, Plains; sister Patricia Leandri, Hilldale; grandchildren Benjamin, Adam, Ayden, Maxwell, Olivia, Natasha, and Haylie. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 24,2015, at 10:00 am from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains.Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy and the American Legion, Post 558. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
