Obituary of Dorothy Ann Vearling

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Ann Vearling, 83, of Wilkes-Barre, formerly of the Philadelphia area and Sewell NJ, returned to her Lord on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, in the Celtic Hospice Unit, Geisinger South, Wilkes-Barre, following a long illness. Dorothy was born in the Hudson section of Plains Township , on March 16, 1931.She was a daughter to the late Charles and Anna Januszko Lutynski. She attended St. Joseph Elementary school and was a graduate of the Plains Memorial High School, class of 1948. She found employment as a telephone operator supervisor with the Bell Telephone Company in the Philadelphia area. Dorothy was also a model at this time and she was named the Bell Telephone Model of the Year. In 1963, Dorothy married the love of her life, Thomas Vearling on February 16, 1963. The new couple decided to leave the Philadelphia area and moved to Sewell, New Jersey, where they resided for the next thirty years. Dorothy found new employment as a receptionist for two different engineering firms: D'Ambly's and Orlips. After many years she retired from work to start a new hobby, cake decorating. Everyone in Dorothy's family knew of her artistic talent for cooking and baking special cakes for different family occasions. Dorothy made several family wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and specialty cakes that took major awards in the cake decorating community of the Philadelphia Area. She was also a gifted artist with making plaster sculptures; playing the piano, and being the town mom in Sewell. Even though she and Thomas never had any children, their home was always open to the town's children for a place to come and get a Coke or play with a toy train at Christmas time, or to sample her baking. Dorothy has a deep faith in her Lord. From the day of being in the Sodality of St. Joseph's, Hudson, to becoming a teacher for the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (C.C.D) education, and a mediator of an adult faith education, she carried her faith with her all the way to the Lord's gate. Dorothy and her husband Thomas returned to the Valley in 2010 after she was diagnosed with a life changing illness. Even with this disability she and Thomas kept the faith and were members of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, Plains. She was preceded in death by her sister Julia Rycki; brothers Thomas, Chester, and Stephen Lutynski. Dorothy is survived by her husband of fifty one years, Thomas, Wilkes-Barre; sisters Irene Nastawa Bayonne, NJ ; Christine " Tina" Macko and Carol Lutynski, both of Wilkes-Barre; sister- in - law Mary Powers, Warrington , PA; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Boyle, pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 10:00am. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00am till time of Mass.
