Obituary of Maria G. Fabie

Maria G. Fabie, 90, of Wilkes-Barre, returned to the Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2015. She was born on May 13, 1924, it Waltham, Massachusetts. She was a daughter to the late John and Mary Bonica Santa Maria. At a young age her family moved to West New York, New Jersey. She attended local schools and received her real estate agent license. She worked for the Skyline Realty of New Jersey for many years. In 1974, she married Alfred Fabie and together they moved to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Maria attended Wilkes University to receive her Pennsylvania real estate agent license. She then started to work for local real estate agencies and also in a local hospice unit. Maria was past president of the District 11 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and past president of the Parsons VFW 6227. She volunteered 2,500 hours for disabled veterans at the Veteran Administration Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. She helped to establish "coffee hour" at the hospital which supplied coffee and donuts to the veteran and patients. She had provided this service for 10 years. Maria was a stamp and coin collector with her son Joseph. Maria's hobbies were tending to her beautiful rose garden, and fussing over holiday preparations from the decorations to cooking the meals and especially baking her delicious cream puffs. She was also a talented seamstress making all of her daughter's dresses. Surviving are son Joseph Santiglia and wife Michele, Wilkes-Barre, PA; daughter Jacqueline Minuskin, Fairlawn, NJ ; and step son Al Barthelemy and wife Evie, Loveland, CO; and several grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11:00 am at the Fairview Mausoleum, Fairview, New Jersey. Friends and family may call on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark Street, Plains, Pa.
