Obituary of Frances Teresa Wanek

Frances T. Wanek, 93, of the Hudson Section of Plains, passed on Wednesday ,April 30,2014, while in the care of Timber Ridge Nursing Center, Plains. Frances was surrounded by her loving family. Frances was born in Hudson on June 12, 1920. She was a daughter to the late Ignatius and Rose Garbulinska Konieczny. She attended local schools and was a graduate of the Plains Memorial High School, class of 1937. She married the love of her life, Michael F. Wanek, on August 25, 1945. They celebrated fifty-three years of marriage together. During this time, Frances was a loving mother to five children. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Hudson, until the church closure. She was a present member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. During the summer bazaar's at St. Joseph, Frances would faithfully volunteer her time making and frying pierogi for the patrons. She enjoyed reading books, completing crossword puzzles, was a superb pie maker, loved to listen and dance to polka music. Best of all she was the greatest mother and grandmother a child would want. Frances was preceded in death by her husband Michael; brother Stanley Konieczny; sisters Sophie Konnick and Lottie Wysocki, son-in-law David Patterson, and grandson Brian Patterson. Mrs. Wanek is survived by her daughters Michaeline Wozniak and her husband Robert, Blairstown, NJ; Francine Berrini and her husband Ben, Plains; Marsha Patterson, Old Forge; Melanie Wincek and her husband Ronald, Plains; son John and his wife Hope, Dallas; sisters Rosalie Prescavage, Hudson Jean Brezenski, Michigan; Leocadia Ason, Indiana; grandchildren Candice Berrini, Plains; Kendra and Bria Wincek, Plains; Brett and Kayla Wanek, Dallas; great granddaughter Nevaya Harrison, Plains; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank you to the caregivers at the Timber Ridge Nursing Center, Plains, for the exceptional care, compassion, and respect they have shown to our mother, Frances. Funeral Services for Mrs. Wanek will be held this Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 8:30AM from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc.,55 Stark Street, Plains. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00A.M. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Rev. John Boyle will be celebrant of the Mass. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the: Wyoming Valley Children's Association, 1133 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, PA 18704, or to the Plains Rotary, c/o Ben Berrini, 9 Birch Ave. Plains, Pa, 18705.
