Clara E. Geffert, 93, Plains Township, passed away on Sunday, May 22,2016, at the Celtic Hospice, Wilkes-Barre.

Born April 1, 1923, in Plains, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Helen (Hajdamack) Gotlieb of Plains.

She was the wife of the late Elmer L. Geffert, who died October 3, 1983. She was also preceded in death by sisters Emily Gotlieb and Isabelle Pipech and brothers Walter, Julian and Theodore Gotlieb.

Clara graduated from Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1941. She was employed by the Department of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization, Philadelphia, and the Financial Department of the Veteran’s Administration, Wilkes-Barre.

She was a charter member of the Plains Women’s Club, Chairman of the Education Department and Secretary of the club. In addition, she was Vice President of the Women’s Auxiliary, LANI VFW Club, Plains, and Chairman of the Christmas activities at the Veteran’s Hospital.

Survivors are daughter, Donna Yozwiak and her husband, Lawrence, Brodheadsville; son, Richard and wife, Marie, Plymouth.

Grandchildren include, Dr. Nathan Yozwiak and his wife, Dr. Jasmine Hanifi Yozwiak, Cambridge, MA; Andrea and Alexandra Yozwiak, Brodheadsville; and Ryan Geffert, Plymouth.

Funeral services will begin on Thursday , May 26, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark Street, Hudson, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains. Interment will be in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00am till time of service.

In lieu of flowers, Masses may be offered at any Catholic Church in her memory.
