Obituary of Janet Josephine Sorbelli

Janet Josephine Sorbelli, 81, of Plains Township, passed on March 16, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Wilkes-Barre on October 30, 1935, she was the daughter t of the late Edmund and Regina Baluta Koscielski. She attended the local schools of Wilkes-Barre and was attending James M. Coughlin High School when she left school to work in the Gort’s Dress Factory. Janet worked in the garment industry for a few years until she married Primo Sorbelli in 1956. Together Primo and Janet opened Primo’s Bakery on George Avenue, in the Parsons Section of Wilkes-Barre. The business has been in continuous operation since 1965 and will continue on operated by the Sorbelli family. Janet was a great baker, but an even better cook. She loved the simple things in life like gardening, canning food, going on cruises or to the casino with family and friends, or just curling up and reading a romance novel in her favorite chair. She was a devout catholic and a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Plains. In life, she was a loving wife; mother, sister; grandmother, and great grandmother who will be forever missed. Preceded in death are her loving husband Primo Sorbelli; son David Q. Sorbelli; and infant brother Anthony Koscielski. Surviving Janet are her daughters Theresa Sledziewski and her husband John, White Haven; and Susan McCarthy and her companion Russell Olson, Plains; Sons Michael P., Manchester, CA; and Paul M., Pensacola, FL; brother Edmund, Wallenpaupack; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Sorbelli’s Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, March 24, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc.,55 Stark Street, Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m . in Saints Peter and Paul Church, Hudson Road, Plains. Rev. Jack Lambert, celebrant. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Plains. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
