Obituary of Ann Marie Theresa O'Hara

Ann Marie Theresa O'Hara of Wilkes-Barre, passed away July 9, 2013 at Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Wilkes-Barre on July 24, 1938, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna Kology. A graduate of Coughlin High School, Ann Marie retired from King's College where she was employed in the housekeeping and food service departments. Prior to her employment at King's College she worked at the Silver Queen in East End. While raising her children, Ann Marie operated a day care center in her home. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church prior to its merger with St. Dominic's. She is a member of St. Benedict's Parish. She is also a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. John Neumann Division. She is preceded in death by an infant daughter Ann; three brothers: Lawrence, Frank and Leonard; and a sister, Genevieve Wyrwas. Surviving is her husband of 56 years, John J. (Jack) O'Hara, daughters Sharon Monie and husband Thomas of Plains; Tracie Thorsen and husband John of Lancaster; Kellie Knesis and husband Justin J. of Wilkes-Barre; and son John J. O'Hara and wife Amy (Delikat) of Matthews, NC. Ann Marie leaves behind five grandchildren: Sarah Monie, Victoria, Katherine and John Thorsen, and Quinlan O'Hara. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff and physicians at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Hospice Community Care of Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre and Timber Ridge Healthcare Center for their tender loving care of Ann Marie. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 9:30AM from Yanaitis Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at St. Benedict's Parish, 155 Austin Ave., in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre celebrated by Rev. Joseph Kearney. Friends may call Friday from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark Street, Plains. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Wilkes-Barre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Center 2010 Adams Avenue, Scranton PA 18509 or the SPCA 524 E. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre PA 18702.
