Obituary of Lawrence Joseph Martin

Lawrence Joseph Martin, 73, of Wilkes-Barre, died, Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at his home, following an illness. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Frank and Marie Dillon Martin. He was educated in the Wilkes-Barre Area Schools and attended James M. Coughlin. He was employed as a factory worker in various businesses throughout the valley. He was married to his loving wife of 49 years the former Elizabeth " Betty" Szymanski. He loved to fish, go for walks with the family dog, Elsa, and was an exceptional golfer. In his life, he had two hole in one shots at the Hollenback golf course. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. He was preceded in death by a son Michael, and his brother Frank. Lawrence is survived by his wife Elizabeth, at home; son Lawrence and his wife Teresa, Nanticoke; daughter Angela Yakabovicz and her husband Eugene, Wilkes-Barre; brother Robert and his wife Margaret, Hanover Twp.; grandchildren Christina,Zachery, Brittany, MacKenzie, Eric, Melissa, Meaghan and Olivia; several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Lawrence's funeral will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 9:00 am from the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark Street, Plains. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30am in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Plains. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
