Jean A. Schweizer, 76, of Larksville, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas. Born on June 15, 1937, in Edwardsville, she was a daughter to the late Sidney and Ada May Thomas. Jean grew up in the Edwardsville area and attended local schools. She was a graduate of the Edwardsville High School, class of 1956. Upon graduation, she entered workforce holding a job at the cigar factory and then in the shoe factory both located in Edwardsville. She left her job to become a homemaker after marrying Richard A. Schweizer. Together they raised two children Richard T. and Sheri. As the children started school, Jean volunteered as a homeroom mom in Main Street Elementary, Plymouth. After several years Jean returned to working as a cafeteria aid in the Wyoming Valley West Middle School. She enjoyed working with children for several years until her retirement. Throughout her life, Jean enjoyed going to yard sales and spotting a good buy. She loved fishing and spending time at Lake Sylvan. In the evenings, she loved reading a good book, or teaching her children the skill of bowling. Around the home, she was an avid gardener. She claimed to have the largest gardenia bushes in the town. In her later years, she took pride in helping to raise her grandchildren and spoiling them with her famous French toast sticks.
