Bernard Lee Ferrando, 89, of Bear Creek Township, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020 surrounded by his family, while in the care of the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Township. Born on April 13, 1930, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Anthony and Julia Pearl Fowler Ferrando. Bernard graduated from Victory High School, class of 1948. After graduation, he worked for the Adamston Flat Glass Company of Clarksburg. A short time later, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at the Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas during the Korean War . After his term of service, Bernard was honorably discharged and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon return home, Bernard returned to work at Adamston Flat Glass. Bernard married Betty Renner and started their family having a daughter named Leah after Betty, unfortunately gave birth to a stillborn child named Bernard Jr. in 1957. In 1974, Bernard lost Betty at a young age. Bernard was later employed by Owens-Illinois Glass Inc. and was later transferred to the Pittston, PA location where he held the position of Plant Supervisor. On July 2, 1976, Bernard married Loretta “Babe” Powell Micheletti and settled in Bear Creek Township. Throughout his life, Bernard was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and hunting. In his later years, he enjoyed bowling and traveling. In the end, he was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. We love you and will miss you. Bernard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Anthony and Julia Pearl Fowler Ferrando; wives Betty and Loretta; son Bernard Jr.; brother David, and sister Barbara Caroli. Surviving are daughter Leah Chempanos and her husband George, Plains Twp.; stepsons Richard Micheletti, Bear Creek and Angelo Micheletti and his wife Vicky, Plains Twp.; grandchildren Heather and George Chempanos, both of Wilkes-Barre; step grandchild ren Christopher Micheletti, Florida; Lisa Micheletti, Florida ; Kiana Micheletti, Bear Creek; Timothy Rawls, California; great grandchildren Zachery Cour; Jeremy Cour; Avery Cour; Chelsea Chempanos; and Nathan Miller; step great grandsons Dylan Micheletti and Alexander Micheletti; and nieces and nephews. Burial services will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in the Mount Olivet Cemetery Chapel, Wyoming. Service will be officiated by Rev. Marty Grimes with military honors. Funeral Services have been placed in the care of the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc.
