Obituary of Stella Tempalski

Stella Tempalski, 96, of Plains Twp., returned to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 26, 2020, while in the care of the Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre. Born in the Hudson section of Plains on February 4,1923. She was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Byczek Tympalski. Stella attended local Plains school and the Plains Memorial High School. She was employed for the majority of her life as a seamstress in the local garment industry. When she wasn’t working, she was the family babysitter of three generations of her family. She loved her nieces and nephews and spending all her time playing and entertaining them. She also enjoyed cooking especially her Orange Drop Cookies, or her coconut layered cake. With all these goodies and many more, Stella was the best hostess for all family gatherings. Stella was a lifelong member of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Plains. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Emily Gornicz, and brothers Frank Tympalski; Walter, Alec, Joseph, and John Tempalski. Surviving Stella is her loving sister Mary Brown of Elizabeth, New Jersey; sister-in-laws Theresa Tempalski, Hudson; and Ruth Tempalski, Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Everyone is invited to attend Stella’s Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Thursday, January 30, at 10:00 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Church, Plains. Mass will be officiated by Rev. Michael Kloton. Interment following in parish cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to mass from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Arrangements are in the care of the Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be given to a charity of your choice. To honor Stella her Orange Drop Cookie Recipe. Ingredients: 2/3 cup Shortening ¾ cup Sugar 1 Egg ½ cup Orange Juice 2 Tbsp. Grated Orange rind 2 Cup Gold Medal Flour ½ tsp. Baking Powder ½ tsp. Baking Soda Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar, and egg thoroughly. Stir in orange juice and rind. Measure flour by sifting-stir in dry ingredients together; blend in. Drop rounded tsps. of dough about 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes or until delicately browned on edges. Frost with icing-making 4 dozen cookies. Make sure you blend butter and sugar together. Stir in orange juice and rind and beat until smooth. Enjoy and think of me.
